In other news, we received our first batch of meat chickens for 2023! This year, we will enhance the health of chickens by feeding a special blend using Joel Salatin’s recipe from his book Pastured Poultry Profit.
Our homemade recipe will include:
Dried Corn (52%) – Corn is a good source of carbohydrates in chicken feed and one of the crops you could grow on your own.
Roasted Soybeans (29%) – Roasted soybeans smell like peanut butter and taste good. Soybeans are a great source of protein.
Crimped Oats (11%) – It is recommended to crimp or roll your oats rather than grind them. Crimped oats are made by taking whole oats and partially flattening them. This damages the husk making them slightly easier to consume. Oats contain protein and carbohydrates but are also a good fiber source.
Feed Grade Limestone or Aragonite (1%) – Aragonite is made from ground oyster shells and provides calcium to your chickens.
Fertrell Nutri-Balancer (3%) – Fertrell Nutri-Balancer is a natural source of all the vitamins and minerals that chickens need.
Fish Meal (3.5%) – Joel Salatin prefers the Sea-Lac fish meal because they process it with low heat, preserving the vitamins and minerals. Fish meal is an excellent source of protein, vitamins and minerals.
Kelp Meal (.5%) – Use a kelp meal grown in cold water and dried geothermally. This way of processing helps to preserve the minerals. Kelp meal contains over 60 minerals, including amino acids, calcium, sulfur, magnesium, manganese, iron, zinc and copper.
Fastrack Probiotic (1%) – Probiotics boost the immune system and promote good digestion.

We've Got Microgreens!
Good morning!
We have some arugula microgreens (spicy) available this week if anyone is interested in buying a small bag. This was an experiment to see how well they did (they did great) so we will only have about 4 bags available ($5 each). Due to limited availability we will only be doing 1 bag per person this time. Please respond to this email if you are interested in purchasing a bag. Payment can be made at time of pick up either via check or cash. We can also send you a link/invoice to pay online if you prefer that.
We will be harvesting them on Friday morning and you will be able to pick them up at the following locations/times:
36 Horny Toad Road in the white milk box outside of the gate (will be available by 9am)
42 Rainbows End in a red cooler at the start of the driveway (will be available by 9am)
15 Corazon De Oro in a red cooler at the start of the driveway (will be available by 3:30pm)
Cheers,
Nina

CSA Pause
Hello all,
I just wanted to reach out to let everyone know that we will be pausing the vegetable portion of our CSA for a few weeks as we transition into our new greenhouse. I will reach out when we are back in action!
In the meantime, however, we still have whole chickens available for purchase as we just processed about 45 birds. This time around we did not feed our birds any corn. Instead, we substituted it with sorghum grown right here on the farm. In addition, they were fed a variety of organic seeds, legumes, grains, and home-grown sprouts.
If you are interested in purchasing a whole chicken, please feel free to reach out at any time to coordinate a pickup (or - if you live on Horny Toad Road, Rainbows End, or Gold Mine Road - we can likely do a drop-off). Pricing for the birds is as follows, so let me know what size you would like when you inquire:
~3lbs = $15
~4lbs = $20
~5lbs = $25
Thank you again to those of you who have supported our small-scale agricultural endeavors and keep a look out for an email when we start back up again with the veggies.
Best regards,
Nina

Chelenzo Farms CSA Update
Hello everyone!
This week we have a smaller basket if you're interested. Baskets will include kale and a few beets. There will be three baskets available at $10/basket, so shoot me an email to claim one. Pick up locations are the same, at the Weaver's (42 Rainbows End) or my house (15 Corazon De Oro).
You are also still welcome to add an organically fed chicken to your basket if you'd like for an additional $25.
We are also excited to announce that you can also buy our produce at the Village Green Grocer in Madrid starting this Thursday! Whenever we have extra produce beyond what we sell through this small CSA, it will be going to them. They will have our spinach, beets, lettuce, onions, and leeks if you are interested in getting any of those over the weekend.
Thanks again! Hope everyone is having a great start to their November.
Cheers,
Nina

Chelenzo Farms Fall/Winter CSA
Hello friends and neighbors!
My name is Nina Listro and I manage all things farm related at Hacienda Dominguez & Chelenzo Farms. Here at the farm, we have a small garden that produces more than we can consume and I would love to share our extra produce with the Cerrillos community. We have fall/winter vegetables in our garden currently and some are approaching their prime this week, so we thought it would be a great time to start our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. It's a little different than other CSAs you might have subscribed to in the past, so please look over the PDFs attached for a more in-depth explanation of the program.
After reading the attachments, please respond to this email if you would like to purchase a harvest basket this week. We only have six available, so make sure to ASAP if you would like to claim one (I have a feeling they'll go quickly). Further into the season, we will likely have more baskets available each week, but it is all dependent on how the veggies do/what the weather is like.
You can also add a whole chicken, raised right here on the farm, to your harvest basket for an additional cost. These will not be available every week, but we will have more starting in mid-November. You can read more about our chickens and how we care for and process them in the attachments.
Of course, if you have any questions feel free to email/call/text me. Also, if you would prefer not to receive our CSA related emails, please respond with that preference and I will take you off the list.
Thanks in advance for your support of our small-scale, regenerative farming practices! I look forward to seeing and meeting those I have not yet met soon!
Cheers,
Nina
